“Our breast cancer social work program, which is supported by this It’s The Journey grant, will help us connect our patients from Fayette, Coweta, Henry, Clayton, South Fulton and Spalding counties to the appropriate support services,” said John Goodman, vice president of oncology services for Piedmont Healthcare. “It is important, during this difficult time for our patients and their families, to have a support system in place and to have someone who is there to address the behavioral, social and environmental factors that influence cancer.”

Piedmont Fayette social work services are free to anyone affected by cancer regardless of where they receive treatment, thanks to private donations and grants like the ones received from It’s The Journey, Inc.

“Even in these tough economic times, the board of directors has been able to grant funding for many Georgia organizations,” said Kim Goff, executive director of It’s The Journey, Inc. “We want to ensure that these organizations can continue to provide services from basic clinical exams to hereditary screening and follow-up treatment for breast care. We are proud that our funds remain focused on local needs that make a difference in Georgia communities.”

It’s The Journey, Inc. awarded grants to 23 organizations across the state. These organizations include those who provide treatment to underserved communities, educate patients on early detection practices and offer multi-language treatment options.
